Kaley & Dan’s wedding was a blast and one of the most interesting nights of the year. It had a little bit of everything… Sunshine. Rain. Outdoors. Indoors. Choreographed First Dance. Epic Dance Party. These are just a few memories that stand out in my mind. Here’s a recap of how it went down:

First, this was a destination wedding at Galena Lodge in beautiful Sun Valley, ID. The reception was scheduled to take place on the lawn in front of the lodge with dancing on the patio (that’s where my DJ setup was). Everyone knew that there was potential for rain, but earlier in the day the sun was out and the situation seemed hopeful. That drastically changed about 30 minutes into the reception though. Dinner was about to begin, but off in the distance you could start to see big, dark & nasty clouds rolling in quickly. A few moments later the wind picked up, the rain started to fall and everyone booked it inside. Fortunately, there was always a back up plan of moving the reception to inside the lodge.

Now, the decision had to be made; do we still have the dancing outside or move the DJ inside with the guests. My equipment and the dance floor was placed under a tent, but when the rain started to hit me at an angle, we all knew what to do. Move it INSIDE!

I quickly unplugged my gear and got help from guests and even the photographer Craig Wolfrom (What a great guy! Super nice and helpful!). It was a tight squeeze, but we managed to get all of the guests, the cake and the DJ equipment inside the lodge, with room to spare for the dance floor.

Even though this wedding reception didn’t go according plan, Kaley & Dan kept smiles on their faces the entire night. They were surrounded by the people they loved and were going to have a wonderful time no matter what…and they did!

They went on with their choreographed First Dance. It was one of the best I’ve ever seen. Kaley & Dan danced to Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” from ‘Dirty Dancing.’ Kaley is a professionally trained dancer and Dan, well, not so much (from what I was told). BUT… he ROCKED it! Everyone loved it and I’m sure their friends and family will be talking about it for years to come.

After that, the epic dance party ensued. It kicked off at 9:30pm exactly and didn’t stop until midnight.

I was in the zone, playing everything from “The Twist” to “Fireball” to “Come On Eileen” to “Bye Bye Bye.” I received a lot of praise for being a great DJ, but I think having professional dancers from New York City as part of my audience helped a bit :) Either way, this wedding reception was definitely one to remember.

I can’t thank Kaley & Dan enough for trusting me with their big day. I’m also appreciative to the crew at Galena Lodge and Craig Wolfrom Photography for their help when I needed it.
Cheers!
