Last night I had the pleasure of being the DJ & MC for the Grand Opening of the new OrangeTheory Fitness gym in Meridian, Idaho. It was a 3-hour event that included a champagne toast, hosted bar, cool prizes and delicious food by Kanak Attack. (Their “Pineapple Sweet & Sour Meatballs” are so yummy!)

There’s been a lot of buzz about this place opening up off of Eagle Rd. and rightfully so. (Full Disclosure: I’m a fitness enthusiast and completely dedicated to they Y in downtown Boise, but am always open to new opportunities.) I gave OrangeTheory a shot last Saturday and it was a great, well-rounded workout. Using treadmills, row machines, TRX bands and weights, you basically challenge yourself based on your heart rate which is monitored the entire time. Here’s their description straight from the OTF website:

“The future of fitness is here. Backed by the science of post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), our heart-rate monitored training is designed to keep heart rates in a target zone that spikes metabolism and increases energy. The result is the Orange Effect – more energy, visible toning and extra fat and calorie burn for up to 36 hours after your workout!”

Definitely check them out!

Back to last night… from this Boise DJ’s persepective that Grand Opening was a great time. I got to mix a lot of new high-energy, family friendly music and even tossed in a few oldies like Mark Morrison “Return of the Mack” and Will Smith “Miami.” We gave away lots of nice prizes like OTF workout gear and bags. The owners were very generous and great to work with.

On another note, we’re exploring the idea of having me DJ live during the classes once or twice a week. I make my own workout mixes and have always thought it’d be exciting to DJ for a workout class. Here’s my opportunity. I’ll keep you posted on my blog on how that goes!

In the meantime, feel free to check out one of my high-energy “Feel Good Friday Mixes.”
