If you don’t mind, I’d like to break out of the DJ & events mold for just a moment. This is a more personal post and I couldn’t be happier to share my news. My wife Joely and I are savoring sweet victory over a debt ridden past that has haunted us for years. As of November 29, 2017 we are living debt-free except for the house. That’s right, we paid off $90,000 in a little under 3 years!

The Total Money Makeover

Living Debt-Free

In 2014, we were blessed to have stumbled upon a book called “The Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey. One of his main purposes in life is to help people get out of debt. That man is Dave Ramsey. His book is called “The Total Money Makeover” and it completely changed our lives.

In his book, Dave lays out a clear plan that anyone can follow to get out of debt and become financially free. It consists of several steps that he named the “baby steps.” Baby step 2 is called the “debt snowball.” It’s where you list out your debts from smallest to largest and start attacking them with a vengeance. That’s pretty much what we did throughout the last 36 months. Was it easy? Not at first. Once we actually started budgeting our finances as if we made less money, it wasn’t so bad.

If you have debt and you’re about to get married , I highly recommend checking out “The Total Money Makeover.” Do yourself a favor and start out your marriage on the right financial foot. It took Joely and I five years of being married before we discovered it. I feel fortunate, but I also wish it would have fallen into our laps years ago so we could have started living debt-free earlier.
