Yes, that is an R. Kelly quote. It’s kind of a cheesy title to my post, I know. But honestly, it’s the truth. This week has flown by and I’m ready to spin some tracks!

With being a stay at home dad in the mornings, prepping for all the cool gigs I have coming up in the afternoons, and hanging out with my beautiful wife at nights, I haven’t had time to pay attention to the days. But alas, the weekend is here, and I get to DJ at one my favorite spots tonight. Neurolux.

Yep, when I first moved to Boise in 2005 it was one of the first clubs I went to that had DJ’s. I loved it! The first time I went there the place was hopping and the DJ was in full command of the dance floor. I told myself right then that I would play there. It took a few years, but in 2009 I got my chance to cover for another DJ. I took it and have been playing there consistently ever since.

What I like most about DJing at Neurolux, besides the stiff drinks, hip staff and great energy, is being able to throw on some crazy tracks that I wouldn’t normally get to play anywhere else…and the crowd feels it. The people there just want to dance and I make it happen. There’s no need to comb through the Billboard charts before my set, because people aren’t there to hear what’s on the radio. They appreciate the uniqueness of the dance tracks I choose, which I appreciate.

Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy playing all types of music, but when I spin Top 40, let’s say, I have to be very aware of what’s popular right now. I may even have to play a certain song several times throughout the night. And that’s fine, because I enjoy that too! But every once in a while it’s nice to just play music from the heart.

Either way, I’m excited to get this weekend going! If you happen to read this before the bars close tonight (Fri, April 6) be sure to stop by Neurolux and come share some Electro, Funk, Hip-Hop & Soul with me…and maybe even a tasty drink ;)
